I just began using an iPod touch. Although it has too many constraints compared to my expectations it is nevertheless a fine piece of machine. After a few days of using it and "moving in" I believe Apple has sold me on an iPhone. If I could purchase access to a wi-fi network in the city so that I could use the device seamlessly where I happen to be on a day by day basis then I wouldn't need an iPhone. But barring that I see no choice but to get an iPhone.
I'm going to try and make it work as is. One of the nicest things so far is the ability to compose emails and be confident that when next I enter a wi-fi network the mail will go out. Very sweet!
Among the issues I have so far:
1. Youtube is a sandbox. I can't access my account
and Youtube videos on webpages are broken. This is absolutely a crappy crappy thing. I do not understand what the business purpose behind this but whatever it is it can't be important enough to force such a crappy solution. Really appalling. And the Youtube interface is broken as it doesn't give the iPod user access to any of the community functionality of the site.
2. There should be the ability to replace elements of the functionality. For instance I'd like to continue managing my bookmarks through del.icio.us but I am stuck with the Safari bookmark. I shouldn't have to run a separate bookmark system for Youtube and I shouldn't have to do so for my browser.
